Derma Roller for Home Scar Removal

Scars - we all have them and they are a long term reminder that our body, at some point, has been cut, grazed or wounded in some form or another. It might be because of a grazed knee from falling off a bike to more serious events such as undergoing surgery - which leave scars particularly noticeable.

Whatever their cause, the scarring process is a vital part of a wonderful self healing process that we all go through.

Scar Formation of skin scars

skin scarScars are areas of skin tissue which have been patched up after the wound has healed. The scar tissue does not look like our normal skin, and it often has a different color of skin around it, has a different feel. Even very faded scars don't have hair follicles or sweat glands.

When mending the damage to itself, our body will form collagen fibers which are the building blocks of our skin. After the initial blood clotting and any scab formation . . . this freshly formed collagen forms a protective layer on the skins surface to prevent infection and foreign bodies from entering past the outer layer.

After the healing process, the skin does not continue to produce collagen to the same quantity that existed before the trauma. By stopping short, the skin is left thinner resulting in the look and feel of scars being so different to normal skin.

Our body is not designed to make itself look good, it's solely concerned with healing and protection. This is where nature needs a little helping hand.

Types of Scars

Most scars form normally, but some scars have unique features such as:

Hypertrophic scars - take the form of a red raised lump on the skin, but they don't grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound, and their appearance often improves after a few years.

Keloid scars - are a more serious form of scarring, because they can carry on growing indefinitely into a large, tumorous (although benign) growth. Keloid scars can occur on anyone, but they are most common in dark-skinned people.[6] Keloid scars can be caused by surgery, an accident, by acne or, sometimes, from body piercings.
keloid scars are only inert masses of collagen and therefore completely harmless and non-cancerous.

Hypertrophic scars and Keloid scars are both the result of over production of collagen, therefor, using a derma roller on these types of scars is NOT recommended.

The vast majority of scar tissue forms naturally, and can be treated safely and effectively using a derma roller.

Scar Removal and Treatment

Removing scars with the skin needling treatment, continues the natural healing process. Using the derma roller causes the thinner areas of skin where the scar is located to be thickened, which in turn decreases the appearance of the scars.

Keep in mind that the dermaroller will not be able to repair and replace any hair follicles and sweat glands which may have been injured.

When you roll the derma roller across your skin, the tiny micro needles create a minute trauma to the dermis and epidermis layers. In response, the skin acts to repair itself as it would with any trauma. It stimulates elastin and collagen production in the skin to fix any gaps in the skins surface, without causing any damage.

The secret behind the success is, this newly formed collagen simply gets added to that which already exists, and results in a completely natural scar reduction process.

After a few dermaroller sessions you should notice the actual surface of the scar thickening and the discoloration fading. This happens as the skin tissue of the scars begins to match the skin that surrounds it.

All scars will benefit to some degree from this scar treatment, but some may not disappear entirely.

Here are the 4 different types of skin rollers we sell -- the roller you choose it totally up to you, it's the needle length that is critical for your success in removing scars.

A needle length of 0.5mm is recommended.
