Derma Roller
Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a Derma Roller?

The Derma Roller (also called skin rollers, microneedle rollers, and dermarollers) is a small hand-held rolling device which has micro surgical steel needles that reach the inner surface of your skin to promote skin repair from the inside out. It stimulates elastin and collagen production in the skin without causing any damage.

Derma Rollers come with different size needles, and choosing the right size for the needle depends on your needs. Here are some recommendations:

Needle length Uses

Needle Length
Uses
0.25mm Increased penetration of skin care products into the skin and overall improvement of skin color and texture.
0.5mm Wrinkles, anti-aging, light acne scarring, mild chicken pox or ice pick scars, also recommended for thinning hair.
1.0mm, 1.5mm Deep stretch marks, cellulite and deep scarring -- 1.5mm is also the maximum needle length recommended for use on your face
2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm For more severe cases, deep scars and wrinkles, rejuvenation of ruined skin

Q. Do Derma Rollers Really Work?

Derma Rollers are supported by clinical studies to be effective in non-surgical and non-ablative treatment for a variety of skin conditions. These include aging, (wrinkles, fine lines, and stretch marks), scarring, (acne and breast augmentation), as well as cellulite and hyperpigmentation.

Studies have also shown that derma rollers are oftentimes a better treatment than dermabrasion, chemical peels, and laser resurfacing. They are proven to be just effective in their ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Regular use of derma roller can thicken skin, smooth scars of all sizes, and erase wrinkles.

Q. Do Derma Rollers Hurt? - Is the Process Painful?

Using the device gently gives a tickling feeling, but using the derma roller is not painful. I was a little skeptical of sticking my face with needles at first too . . but it doesn't hurt.

Q. How does the Derma Roller Work?
Derma rolling system

It performs collagen induction therapy, which means, as you roll the skin needling roller over your skin, the extremely fine needles (microneedles) penetrate into the dermis - the majority of which are simply pushing your pores open temporarily. This is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin.

The human body reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process, but usually it will only heal as far as it must to keep you healthy - which is different to healing to a cosmetic level. By persistently triggering the healing process, you encourage your body to continue healing until the job is finished.

The micro-channels created by the fine needles fully close within just a few hours after initial application. This provides just enough time for new collagen structures to form within the skin's lower layers, but short enough to ensure that you can quickly resume your normal schedule, thereby eliminating the risks and negative side effects that are commonly encountered with dermabrasion, chemical peeling, and laser resurfacing.

Q. Are Derma Rollers Safe?

The derma rolling process is temporarily opening your pores, and allowing dead skin cells and old collagen to be exfoliated, which causes new collagen growth.

Clinically conducted studies in the U.S. South Korea, and Europe have shown that genuine dermaroller therapy can increase serum absorption by as much as 1,000 times. This process is more nurturing to the skin than invasive and expensive skin treatments which makes skin needling at home safe.

Q. How will the derma roller benefit my skin?

Q. How do I use the derma roller?
Derma roller instructions

Step One: Apply skincare cream or lotion liberally to affected area before using your dermaroller.

Step Two: Apply your dermaroller in the horizontal, vertical, diagonal direction on affected areas. A regular and soft "rolling" with minimal pressure is sufficient (high pressure does not infiltrate more substances into the skin).

It is recommended to move the roller only in one direction, from the crown to the front and/or sides. We recommend that you use the roller at bedtime every second day until your skin becomes accustomed to the roller. After the second or third week you may roll daily if you think it is necessary.

Caution: You may experience redness and irritation due to microchannels formed, but those will go away in 1 to 2 hours.

Step Three: Re-apply your skincare cream or lotion liberally to affected area after using Microneedle Skin Roller.

Q. How do I Take Care of my Derma Roller?

After each skin rolling session always apply an effective anti-aging cream. One of the benefits of skin needling is it's ability to enable deeper penetration and absorption of topical products. Also, make sure to rinse the roller well under hot water then dip it into a glass of rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to disinfect it.

Lay your derma roller on it's side to avoid rusting of the needles.
